As a board member of the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, I was very much looking forward to this year’s Platinum Awards. The Platinum Awards are the biggest event of the year for the Chamber and is a great opportunity for local business and service organizations to celebrate all the wonderful work they have been doing over the last year. I have met so many great people over the last couple years and am lucky enough to have many them as clients so I was thrilled to be able to nominate some of them for one of the 13 different awards being handed out next week. These people and their businesses are passionate about the City of New Westminster and helping those in our community, both through their businesses and by volunteering their time to help others.
Although winning or even being nominated for any award is a huge accomplishment, there is one in particular that I find the most prestigious. The Citizen of the Year award is given to an individual who consistently contributes to the overall well-being of New Westminster. Last year’s well-deserving winner was none other than Jenn Arbo, someone I am lucky to have as a friend and a client ( http://waddingtonwealth.ca/testimonials ). This award is special because although there are so many great business owners in New West, this one category is awarded based solely on the contributions of the individual towards our city. To win this award, the recipient must be truly passionate about helping the community of New Westminster, and that passion inspires me to do the same. For that reason, I am honoured to sponsor the Citizen of the Year award for 2017 and look forward to presenting it to this year’s winner.
The nominees were announced a few weeks ago and I was very pleased to see so many of my clients and friends nominated but I was also very shocked and excited to see that I myself had been nominated for Entrepreneur Under 40 of the Year. The description of the award is “and individual age 40 or under who has distinguished themselves by supporting business growth. The recipient inspires others with their business vision, leadership and achievement, and contributes to community programs either corporate or personal”. It has been an amazing, and very busy year and a half since I created Waddington Wealth Management Group. I have met so many people and been able to help many organize their finances, reduce their investment costs and increase their returns but without them (and my amazing wife Liz), I wouldn’t be able to give back to the community as I do. I share this nomination with all those who have supported me over the years and I look forward to a really fun night next week!
