More Common Than You Think
After almost 10 years meeting with new clients, I have come to realize that embarrassment over one’s financial situation is a real barrier to seeking help. Don't feel bad about not giving your finances the attention they deserve. Society today has become so demanding that people often struggle to find the time to do important tasks.
Unfortunately, the longer you put these tasks off, the harder it is to get started and get things back on track. For example, at one point, I didn’t visit the dentist for over 2 years. I wanted to switch dentists but was too busy to figure out a new one. This went on and on and nagged at me as I knew I needed a cleaning. One day, on my way home I finally just walked in to a dentist, set an appointment and within a week had clean teeth and that nagging feeling gone.
How about exercise? We all know how hard that first run is after not running for a few weeks, or months, or years. The longer you put it off, the harder it is when you finally get back to it and the more embarrassed you are at the extra pounds you have gained by neglecting your exercise routine.
Easier Than You Think
Personal finances are the same, the more time goes by without having a plan, the less organized you become. I have helped clients who didn’t know what accounts they had, let alone how much they had or what it was invested in. If this sounds like you, I can assure you, you are not alone and getting on track is easier than you think.
I met with a couple about a year ago who finally decided to get their finances organized and were worried they wouldn’t have enough to retire by the time they turned 65. They were 55 at the time. After going through a discovery meeting, reviewing their current investments and putting together a Financial Plan for them, we showed they could retire before 65. However, if they took our recommendations to lower their investment costs and optimize their asset allocation, they could retire 5 years earlier than planned. The clients were of course ecstatic as they came in worried they would not have enough to retire in 10 years and now have a plan in place to retire in 5, if they wish to.
We can’t guarantee an early retirement but can guarantee getting a Financial Plan in place will dramatically reduce the stress that has built up from years of neglect. I can also guarantee that the first meeting will be more fun than a trip to the dentist. Please don’t be embarrassed, I have seen it all and am here to help. The sooner we connect the sooner you will get a Plan in place and remove that stress.
If you feel like your finances are being neglected, you would like a Plan or just want a general chat to see if I can help, please don’t hesitate to connect with me.
