Year 5 and Counting
Quinn Waddington - Jul 29, 2021
Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since I took the leap and started Waddington Wealth Management Group. They say time flies when you’re having fun and despite the 2018 market crash and then COVID, I have to admit that the last 5 years has been a lot of fun. That fun is accompanied by a lot of stress, but I truly enjoy working with clients and watching them achieve their goals. Of course, the recognition of happy clients sending their friends and family to seek my advice has gone a long way in aiding my enjoyment, especially in the COVID restricted last year when I haven’t been able to physically meet people.
Speaking of COVID, I am so happy to finally have some of the restrictions relaxed and being able to meet clients and prospects again. For an introverted person, I have to admit, I didn’t think I would miss in person meetings as much as I did. I’ve realized that being able to sit down with individuals is so valuable to both the trust we can build with each other as well as my own sanity from having to stare at a computer screen all day.
We have been so busy with meetings, now that they are allowed, that I am getting this annual recap out over a month after the actual anniversary date but that is just fine by me. Despite the restrictions over the last year, we were able to grow the business by 52%. That growth is almost solely from our wonderful clients, trusting us to take great care of anyone they send our way and we whole-heartedly appreciate it.
As you may know, I won the 2019 Best Financial Advisor in the Reader’s Choice Awards (look out for an update on that for 2021!) but earlier in the year I was honoured to be nominated in the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce Platinum Awards for 3 different categories: Customer Service Excellence, Community Spirit and Business Adaption. While I didn’t walk away with any hardware, I took the nominations as validation that not only am I providing great service and value to clients, but I am also using my success to support the community.
Personally, this last year has shown us just how much community support means as our house caught COVID in March. With staggered infectious dates and the littlest kids never actually contracting it, we were stuck in quarantine for 25 days. Without our community of neighbours, friends, family and clients helping, it would have been a lot tougher stint. We truly appreciated all the meals, treats, games, cards and well wishes.
On a brighter personal note, we were able to sneak in a few lacrosse games to the boys’ seasons after the restrictions were lifted, which made coaching them both even more fun. The middle child (seen below) has been itching to play for years and the sport did not disappoint as in his one and only game his team won, he got a jumbo freezie and he scored 2 goals (in his order of importance).
It has been a year that I will truly never forget, but there was definitely some silver lining to it all. With that said, I am looking forward to what year six has to offer. I am looking forward to working and growing with my clients. I am look forward to meeting and helping new people. I am looking forward to contributing more to my community. Lastly, I am looking forward to the rest of summer!
